Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire – The ABC of Guaranteed Sun (350+ Real Sunny Days a Year)

Tired of booking Caribbean trips and then refreshing the hurricane tracker every five minutes? Welcome to the ABC islands, the three rebels that sit way south of the hurricane belt, laugh at storms, and give you sunshine like its their full-time job. We’re talking 350-360 sunny days per year, constant 15-25 knot trade winds that keep it 28-32°C but feeling like 26, and water so many shades of blue it should come with a filter warning.

Here’s the no-BS breakdown so you know exactly which island to pick (or island-hop all three, flights are 20 minutes).

Aruba – the “happy island” that actually earns the nickname
Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are stupidly perfect, powdery white sand, water that goes from clear to turquoise to deep blue in ten steps. Sun literally every single day, even when the rest of the Caribbean is crying. Trade winds blow hard enough that you never feel sticky, perfect for kids because the sea is calm inside the reefs and there are a million hotels with pools and kids clubs if you need a break.

Do: Arikok National Park in the morning (cacti, wild goats, natural pool), then beach till sunset.
Stay: low-rise side (Eagle/Palm) if you want classic Caribbean, high-rise if you want Vegas-on-the-beach energy.
Food: forget hotel buffet, eat at Zeerovers in Savaneta, fresh fish and plantain straight off the boat for 15 bucks.

Curaçao – the cool one with soul and colour
Willemstad looks like Amsterdam dropped acid, pastel houses, floating market, and zero chain resorts everywhere. Beaches are smaller but insane: Cas Abao, Grote Knip, Playa Kenepa, all free or 3-5$ entry, water warmer and clearer than Aruba because less wave action. Winds still blow, but the island is hillier so you get pockets of calm. Best snorkelling from shore in the whole Caribbean, just walk in and turtles are waiting.
Do: rent a car, chase the 30+ little cove beaches, dive the Mushroom Forest, drink Blue Curaçao that actually tastes good at the distillery.
Stay: Pietermaai district in town for bars and vibes, or west coast (Westpunt) for total chill.
Bonus: way cheaper hotels than Aruba and still direct flights from everywhere.

Bonaire – the quiet diver/windsurfer paradise
If you want crowds, go literally anywhere else. Bonaire is 80% national park, no big hotels, no cruise ships most days, just donkeys walking across the road and flamingos chilling in salt pans. Shore diving capital of the world, 60+ marked sites, you drive up, gear up, walk in, zero boat needed. Winds strongest here, Sorobon beach (Lac Bay) is flat water heaven for wing foiling and kitesurfing, kids learn in one morning. Sun 360 days, rain is measured in teaspoons.
Do: Washington Slagbaai Park full-day loop, snorkel 1000 Steps and Klein Bonaire, eat lionfish ceviche (they’re trying to kill it off).
Stay: beachfront apartments or small resorts, everything is relaxed and cheap compared to the other two.
Quick cheat sheet

Want all-inclusive, kids clubs, perfect long beaches → Aruba
Want colourful town, culture, snorkelling, cheaper → Curaçao
Want diving, wind sports, total peace → Bonaire
Want all three → fly into Aruba, out of Bonaire, 20-minute hops on local airline, costs almost nothing extra.

Bottom line: while the rest of the Caribbean is playing weather roulette, the ABC islands just hand you sunshine on a plate, every single day, no exceptions. Trade winds keep bugs away, temperatures perfect, sea calm enough for toddlers and wild enough for pros.
Pick one, pick all three, just stop gambling with your vacation days. The sun here doesn’t know the meaning of “cloudy”.
